printing is taken granted by us time to time as well as we may be feel guilty. We may need to print a specific document that’s not your usual A4, Word doc.

Printer paper sizes

It is common to use different sizes of paper. This always raises questions like ‘is A3 larger than A4’.

You can understand why it could be confusing. Paper sizes are arranged in reverse order so the largest dimension is the smallest. We’ll go over some of the most common paper sizes and explain what they are, as well as how they’re used.

What are the different sizes?

There are different classes of paper. The A-class is what we use most often. Paper with the right ratios is A-class. This means it can be folded perfectly in half to make the next smallest size.

Discover the different sizes of paper and printers that are compatible with them.

The A0 paper size is 841 x1189 mm which is larger than any other. They’re also over a metre tall or the equivalent of 16 sheets of A4 size paper. These are typically used to make large posters and signs.

These sheets of paper are similar to A0 and would be used in the creation of signs, window displays and posters. They are not as large as A0 is measuring 594 x 840 mm.

A2 paper is 420 x 594 mm. This size paper is used for notices, posters and art prints. This paper is slightly larger than a British broadsheet.

You’ve probably seen A3 paper at school or work. It measures 297 x 421 mm and it is similar in size to a tabloid but with slightly different proportions. This is a popular paper size for posters, charts and presentations. Many smart inkjet business printers can print A3 size paper, some of which are even A4-sized machines!

A4 size paper is 210 by 297 millimeters. This is the standard size for printing in the UK. It can be used to print anything from Word documents, stationery and letterheads. All laser and inkjet home printers as well as some mobile printers. it should be able to print A4.

The A5 paper format is 148.5 x 220 mm and it can be used for many things. It is a convenient and portable size for flyers, invitations, booklets, diaries and planners. Many mobile printers have A5 printing capabilities but many home printers also offer A5 prints. A5 is half the size A4 so two A5s can be printed per sheet of A4.

The standard A6 paper size measures 105 x 148 mm. It is too small to accommodate long blocks of text but it still has many uses. This size can be printed by some mobile printers. It is commonly used for flyers and postcards.
